I am glad that there is new work exploring the power of mindfulness for pain. I've witness some of the same benefits in my application of mindfulness techniques to patients with chronic pain.

I agree that it is not a dirty word but people with AS have a pervasive developmental disorder. According to DSM IV they do not have Autism. There is no delay in the development of language and cognitive skills in people with AS like you would see in autism. I believe there are separate entities and syndromes which may even have different causes, courses and outcomes. However according to DSM V "Asperger’s syndrome and another mild form of autism, pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (P.D.D.-N.O.S. for short), will be folded into a single broad diagnosis, autism spectrum disorder." I hope we at least get an Autism Spectrum Disorder NOS diagnosis in DSM V if this is going to be the case.

Not at all - Asperger Syndrome is part of the autism spectrum. Why be afraid of being identified as autistic? It's not a dirty word. People with Asperger Syndrome are autistic. No-one is saying AS is an unspecified pervasive developmental disorder - they are saying AS is autism. And that should be OK.

This is a dangerous and slippery slope. Asperger's is a separate and distinct syndrome which may be on the autism spectrum but needs to be treated very differently than Autism. It is REAL and is not an unspecified Pervasive Developmental Disorder!

Thank you Health Dept for waking up to this chalange. Yes, indeed it is a top priority. These innocent children deserve more than just a diagnoses. Until more is known, there are therapy options(experimental as they may be), let's give these kids the chance. God bless America!

Very interesting article. I have been diagnosed with MCI very early stages non-amnestic. It is believed this was a result of my vast history of migraines and subsequent TIA's. I was 50 at diagnosis. It is nearly a year later, and I seem to have developed some sort of tremor, when I was working as a social worker I became very familiar with BET's in clients. It is not only in my head or hands, it seems all over. Almost like I am in a constant "shiver", but it isn't and it isn't anxiety. My concern is whether any of my medication are contributing to some of this or I may have a whole different diagnosis altogether. With Namenda I am able to function quite well and am able to remain at work. Sometimes I am a wee bit slower than my co-workers in getting some of the duties done, but they are done right when I'm done. This currently seems to express itself more internally than externally. Not sure if this is a medication interaction or a progression. My vision is also becoming affected. With that cause me to fear the onset of MS. Sure hope this makes sense.

New mood stabilizers and antidepressants are now being studied that primarily target neurotrophins such as BDNF. This is more support that they may be on the right track.
